Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is the practice of outsourcing specialized services, where the client hires the service provider to perform functions that are not part of the company’s core business.
The main objective of BPO is to allow companies to focus their energies on strategic, tactical, and operational activities that are part of their core business, while activities that are not considered core are managed by specialized and qualified professionals, generating savings and efficiency for these processes.
By contracting BPO, in addition to increasing specific knowledge in the contracted areas, outsourced processes and activities are managed by a delivery contract that guarantees quality execution within the agreed deadline (SLAs), enabling company management to make decisions based on quality information and, above all, on time, increasing the assertiveness of these decisions.
According to data collected by ABRAPSA (Brazilian Association of Administrative Support Service Providers, which brings together companies in the Business Process Outsourcing – BPO segment), for the period from 2010 to 2021, the data analyses demonstrate the behavior of the BPO sector, indicating a growth rate of employment in the sector that reached 149%, a rate 11 times higher than the total growth of the economy, which registered 13% in the same period.
Some other interesting information extracted from data demonstrate the growth in demand for hiring this type of service and that are worth highlighting include the increase in the number of people employed in the BPO sector between 2010 and 2021, which went from 438,000 to around one million, an increase of approximately 150%. The growth in the number of establishments is also impressive, with an increase of 55% during this period, rising from 20,000 establishments to around 31,000.
The use of technology also has a significant impact on the sector, particularly in activities related to accounting and tax, allowing companies to automate more bureaucratic and repetitive processes. The emergence of technology companies with solutions in this area has also been significant in the last years.
According to Abrapsa, the demand for BPO services in Brazil will continue to increase due to a series of factors, including constant regulatory changes and the need for detailed visibility of reliable economic and financial information by managers who require reliable indicators for more strategic decision-making.
