We have the pleasure of announcing the arrival of Daniel Affonseca into VBR! We are certain he will be an incredible addition to our team of specialists!
Know more about him:
Senior Tax and Accounting Executive with over two decades of global experience in developing tax planning strategies, corporate reorganizations, international taxation (cross-border transactions), and transfer pricing rules.
Experience
Daniel graduated in Economics from PUC-SP and began his career in 1994 at Arthur Andersen, where he was part of the accounting audit team. During this time, he solidified concepts and honed accounting techniques.
Two years later, he requested a transfer to the corporate tax department, where he had the opportunity to develop skills in his field of interest, which had led him to his Economics degree.
From that point onward, Daniel participated in various projects, including financial statement audits (compliance) and tax planning aimed at optimizing companies’ tax payments across different sizes and industries.
As his experience grew, he became involved in company acquisition projects (due diligence), primarily advising multinational clients interested in starting operations in Brazil.
During this phase of his career, he conducted numerous tax seminars for clients and was responsible for internal training on national and international taxation.
As a result of his professional trajectory, Daniel joined the international group known as ICE GROUP (International Core of Excellence) at Deloitte. This group, based in Chicago (IL), consisted of senior tax professionals from various countries with which the USA maintained trade relations.
Over a 2-year period, immersed in American culture and business environment, Daniel assisted US-based companies in understanding the Brazilian tax landscape. He implemented projects to maximize international fiscal efficiency and provided financial planning, particularly related to currency remittances from Brazil.
During this time, he acquired and consolidated knowledge of international taxation and treaties to prevent double taxation between countries.
Back in Brazil, armed with his overseas experience and a new degree in Accounting Sciences, Daniel engaged in multidisciplinary teams auditing multinational companies’ financial statements. He also led projects related to corporate restructuring, due diligence, transfer pricing, and international taxation.
After leaving Deloitte, Daniel established his own tax consultancy, continuing to provide similar services to national and multinational clients. His focus shifted to “Middle Market” companies, which were notably underserved in terms of quality technical consulting.
His portfolio expanded to include projects such as developing optimal structures, both from a tax and corporate standpoint, to attract investors to startups. Additionally, he improved existing operational structures, aiming to optimize the tax burden (through credit assessment projects) and effectively reduce companies’ tax load, thereby increasing shareholder remuneration capacity.
Finally, Daniel’s ongoing involvement in tax and corporate reorganization projects, encompassing international taxation, transfer pricing, and treaties to prevent double taxation, led him to join the VBR Brasil Group. Their international alliance with Praxity© ensures excellence in providing international services, with unrestricted reach and technical capacity.
